What I first envisioned when I thought of creating S.E.B Business Advice was to develop a real community where people can exchange ideas, seek assistance, and have an opportunity to work on projects by linking like-minded people.
In my experience I have come across a catch 22. It appears that too many individuals who would like to learn/apply new skills in their professional area or in a completely different field are denied the opportunity because of the lack of skill/experience. Some career networking sites (even leading sites) promote themselves as a tool to help in career advancement or to launch people into new careers, however I found these sites work well in helping individuals find new employment in the same skill level, position or professional area. Often times these sites feel more like a social networking site to promote career titles or as a way to become discovered based on prior work history. This leaves a gap in the market for people who are attempting to venture into a different career or wish to advance upwards in their field. If you ask me, the world could be missing out on great talents, future leaders, and prominent business owners of tomorrow because they may not have a platform, tools, or collaborators to show case their talent.
